Clinical Study of Clarithromycin in Patients with Respiratory Tract Infection

Abstract
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Clarithromycin on community-acquired pneumonia, 30 patients(male 18, female 12) were treated with Clarithromycin(250 to 500mg, bid) in Chung Nam National University Hospital from September, 1993 to July, 1994.
25 of 30 cases were cured(83.3%), and 5 cases(16.7%) were no response to the drugs. Fever was disappeared 3 days after treatment. Cough and sputum were 5.4, 5.2 days respectively. There were no significant side effects except mild nausea and diarrhea, mild elevation of serum AST/ALT (1 case, 3.3%).
These results suggest that Clarithromycin be effective first-line therapy against the community-acquired pneumonia.
